Surrounded by his loving family, George Edwin Hiar passed from this life on February 8, 2013 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey.

He was born on September 23, 1926 to George and Katherine (Wagner) Hiar on the family farm on Luesing road near Levering, where he was raised with his sister, Marian and brother, Paul.

George spent his life working the land, farming potatoes and logging with his team of horses.

In May of 1968 he married the former Peggy J. Burns. They joined their two families together and were later blessed with two daughters of their own; eventually raising a total of 13 children.

George is survived by his loving wife Peggy and by children, Edward (Kathy) Hiar, Jerry Hiar, Ron Hiar, James (Marie) Hiar, Kathy Hiar, Georgia Litzner and Dixie Hiar; and step-children are, Michelle (Mark Scott) Ranville, James Scoon, Marshall Scoon, and Michael Scoon. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grand children and great-great grandchildren, as well as special family friend, Jeffrey Green. Including his parents and infant sister, Gloria Jean; George was also preceded in death by his daughter, Vicki, his step-daughter, Robin Krupa and Grandson Val Ditta.

George was a man of simple tastes and his family wishes to honor his life in the same manner in which it was lived. A graveside service will be held later this spring at Carp Lake Cemetery.
