Barry L. Brown, age 64

Barry L. Brown passed away at his home in Warrenton VA on Tuesday 29 Oct 2013 at 4:30 PM. Barry was stricken with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis--Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS), which took him some 10 months after his original diagnoses of the disease.
Barry was born on 22 Oct 1949 in LaFayette, GA to Benjamin and Louise Brown. He was a graduate of Chickamauga High School and attended several years of college while on active-duty in the U.S. military. Barry served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam war years in Thailand. He later joined the U.S. Navy after a short break in service, serving as Radioman and an Equal Opportunity Specialist. He helped to create the first Equal Opportunity Processes for the Seabee's Command Nationwide. Barry spent 17 years total in 'active-duty' military service and approx. eight years in the reserve to be able to retire from the military. He was later declared 100 percent disabled veteran due to ALS.
Barry married Ellen Dee on 30 Dec 1973. After his military service, Barry worked for several companies as a Technical Recruiter. Barry also played on the same Christian softball team for approx. 30 years. He was very active in leading 'Cursillo' weekend retreats within the Northern VA area.
He was survived by his wife of 39 years, Ellen Dee; two daughters and their spouses, and seven grandchildren; a sister Peggy Laney, and a brother Terry Brown. He was predeceased by his niece Zan, brother-in-law Harold, both his parents, and a older sister Evelyn.
The funeral service was held at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Warrenton, 217 Winchester Street, Warrenton VA on 9 Nov 2013 at 11:00 AM; burial followed at Bright View Cemetery in Warrenton, VA. A reception was held at the church Hall following his burial; Father Gould administered Barry's Mass and burial. A Visitation was held at the Moser Funeral Home on 8 Nov 2013 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
Barry always felt that we need to support local ministry and people in need. If you wish to make a donation please send it to St John's Catholic Church noted on behalf of Barry L. Brown. A special thanks to Peggy, Barry's older sister who came and cared for Barry during the last 10 months of his life alongside his wife Ellen. The Family will always be internally grateful for Peggy's love, sacrificial care provided to Barry during his illness. The Family, and especially Peggy and Ellen, send a special 'thank you' to Heartland Hospice Nurse Natalie for her love support and care during the last four months of Barry's life.
