Carrie Lou Baca Dumas, 72, of Farmington, passed away, Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, in Farmington. She was born Dec. 12, 1932, to William Baca (pronounced "Bachie" in Czech) and Antonio Baca in Willow, Okla.
Carrie attended grade school at Lake Creek and moved to Ocina in the 5th grade. She graduated from Ocina High School in 1950, Salutatorian of her class, lettered four years in basketball, pitched for softball team, basketball queen, soloist with choir and all around student for two of her four years in high school.
Carrie came to Farmington to visit a lifelong friend, Stella Flemming, in 1955 and met her husband of fifty years, William E. Dumas Sr. They were married in Highlands Baptist Church.
Carrie was preceded in death by both her parents.
She is survived by her husband, William; son, William E. Dumas II and wife, Gaye; and daughter, Lisa Rowe and husband, Steve. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Kari Lynn and Sarah Rowe, Amy and William E. Dumas III; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Justin; one sister, Georgia and husband, Ed Tatyek, of Duncan, Okla.; and two nephews and one niece.
Carrie loved caring for her home. She enjoyed church work, cooking and being with her grandchildren. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for 28 years, where she led a youth choir, sang in the choir, and did whatever needed to be done. For many years she opened her home for dinners and choir functions.
Visitation for Carrie will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Pastor John Preston and Pastor Mike Copeland officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the San Juan Medical Foundation, P.O. Box 110, Farmington, NM 87499.
