Ray was born January 22, 1940 in Blue Ridge to the late Tom Bivins and the late Gladys Sisson Bivins.
He was of Baptist and in addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Gene Bivins, Joe Bivins, Jack Bivins and A S Bivins; one sister Lousise Bivins Altman, and great grandson Jaxson Thomas Henry. Ray enjoyed reading in his spare time.
He is survived by his wife Mary Nell Stanley Bivins, daughters and son-in-laws Mary Joyce and Rodney Padgett and Michelle Tipton, son Bill Bivins, sisters Mildred Alverson and Joyce A Bivins, three grandchildren, Johanna Cardwell, Megan Henry and Daniel Padgett and several nieces and nephews.
Grade side services were held Wednesday October 30, 2013 at Chastain Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev Claude Mathis officiating. Pallbearers included Troy Stover, Timmy Alverson, Richard Alverson, Chris Sisson, Alan Sisson and Neil Young.
