Sometime between 1856 and 1858, John WEAR in order to clear title to land left by his stepmother published the following legal notice in the Knoxville Register: "John WEAR vs. P. M. WEAR, William BRADSHAW, heirs of John Guthrie, David Johnson and David Cumming, non-residents of TN a petition to sell land for the sum of $100 or more."
page 185
In the Col. Samuel WEAR section of "Notable Southern Families, Vol. II" by Zella Armstrong, Melinda WEAR is not mentioned. This was due to the fact that the WEAR bible was not available to Richard Lee Kelton, who wrote that section. Melinda WEAR and her birth date is listed with Col. Wear's other children in his handwriting and was made at the same time as he listed the other children in his Bible Her marriage date is also given in another part of the record in another handwriting, but the name of her spouse is not given. There can be no doubt that Melinda WEAR married a William BRADSHAW.
