MUSCATINE — Gene O. Rochholz, 73, of Muscatine, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at Trinity Muscatine.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The Rev. Don Sondrol will officiate. Burial with military rites will be held at noon Monday at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Online condolences may be left at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Gene was born Dec. 9, 1939, in Scott County, the son of Louis V. and Nora Schroeder Rochholz. He married June M. Lamp on July 11, 1959, in Davenport. She preceded him in death Oct. 28, 2010. June was more than a loving wife to Gene. She was his "Sunshine."

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Vietnam War.

He worked at Eastern Iowa Grain Inspection as a manager for 50-plus years. He loved his job and co-workers to the point that retirement wasn't even considered.

He was a member of Moose Lodge No. 388 and American Legion Post No. 430 in Durant, Iowa.

Gene enjoyed gardening, arguing about NASCAR, tinkering in his garage and having a beer with ALL. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Those left to honor his memory include three brothers, Rolland Rochholz, Moline, Kenneth Rochholz, Walcott, and Wendell Rochholz, Pleasant Valley; his sister, Trenna Malone of Davenport; many nieces and nephews, and lots of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
