U.S. Congressman. He completed preparatory studies, studied law, was admitted to the bar and began to practice law in Lebanon, Ohio, in 1810. In 1819, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Congresses and reelected as a Crawford Republican to the Eighteenth Congress, serving until 1825. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law and ran his farm until his death. His sister's husband Thomas Corwin, was the 15th Governor of Ohio, a U.S. Congressman and the 20th U.S. Secretary of Treasury.
