Martha was the daughter of Jacob F. and Elizabeth Hockman.She married Ebenizer Carruthers in Edenburg Va. on Jan 1,1857. Ebenizer was a stone cutter and moved to Shenandoah Co. with his stone cutter friend Patrick Henry Kelley both from the Richmond Va. area and both married Hockman girls. Martha and Ebenizer moved to Texas around 1880. First to Cherokee Co. where they tried raising swine and farming. Martha got sick so they moved to Ft. Worth where they hoped she'd get better. Martha died shortly thereafter with breast cancer as did her older sister Eliza.
