Myrtle Luvida Burris Hendrix, 100, of Dover went home to be with her Lord on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at Russellville Nursing and Rehabilitation.

The daughter of John and Mittie Bell McElroy Burris, she was born March 18, 1913, in Pope County.

She and Russell Odell Hendrix were married on Aug. 14, 1931, in Moreland by the Rev. Adrian Duvall, standing under an old oak tree. Rev. Duvall cut a watermelon at the wedding, thus establishing an annual tradition of cutting a watermelon on their wedding anniversary.

She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking. She was a homemaker and a member of the Phoenix Freewill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Russell Odell Hendrix; her son, Edward Odell Hendrix; her parents; and seven siblings, Odus Burris, Bessie Summers, Laverne Byrum, Ira Burris, Lawrence Burris, Luvina Patton and Clarence Burris.

She is survived by her daughter, Anna Robbins and husband, Doyle; daughter-in-law, Juanita Hendrix; granddaughter, Debbie Brown and husband, John Bassham; two great-grandchildren, Brent Brown and wife, Alicia, and Traci Stokes and husband, Shannon; two great-great grandsons, Blake Brown and Reid Brown, all of Dover; and a large extended family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Humphrey Chapel. Revs. Bob Alexander and Freddie Goats will officiate. Burial will be at Phoenix Cemetery in Dover by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 6-8 today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Jerry Holt, Bill Martin, Alvie Mitchell, Mike Menge, Jim Wisbrock and Bill Bowman.

Honorary pallbearers are Jim Davis, Wayne Freeman, Joe Griffin and Jim Miller.
