Betty was born at Grady Hospital in Atlanta on November 7, 1931 to Ruby Waters Huyler and Mack Huyler. She spent her childhood in both the Atlanta area and in Greenville, SC.

Betty met Roy Albea in Atlanta, and it was love at first sight for him. They married on February 1, 1947 in Greenville, SC. It wasn't until Betty met Roy's family that she realized that she had known Roy's sisters as a child.

Betty and Roy moved between Atlanta and Greenville for the first few years of their marriage, until they settled in College Park around 1952. They moved to Decatur around 1964, and remained their for the rest of their lives.

Together Betty and Roy had six children: Roy Jr., June, Charlie, Ruby, Lloyd, and Larry. They also had 7 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Betty passed away on October 1, 2005, only 13 days after Roy had passed.
