Armin E. Bender, age 74, of Utica, passed away Sunday, April 5, 1981, at Warren Memorial Hospital in Friend.

He was born on a homestead west of Friend on January 21, 1907, the son of Sophia (Rauscher) and John Henry Bender. He attended rural grade school and then high school in Friend.

On June 29, 1941, Armin was united in marriage to Ruth Manning, and to this marriage two children, Paul Norman and Gayla Jean were born. Armin and Ruth lived 36 years together in the Exeter community. Armin devoted these years in a service station business until his retirement in 1972. Ruth preceded Armin in death on June 4, 1977.

Armin was married to Frances (Strinz) Scherer on February 18, 1979. They were blessed with two yeas of happiness together. They were living in Utica at the time of his death.

In addition to his wife, Ruth, Armin was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include wife, Frances, of Utica; son, Paul N. Bender and wife, Joyce of Minden; daughter, Mrs. Gordon (Gayla) Johnsen and husband of Geneva; step-daughter, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Eikenhorst and husband of Utica; two brothers, Raymond, of Watertown, Wis., and Homer of Friend; one sister, Mrs. Irene Heinzman of Friend; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 1981, at the Exeter United Methodist Church in Exeter, with Rev. David Kelly officiating. Music was furnished by Robert O. Rhodes, accompanied by Mrs. Edward Votipka.

Pallbearers were Dick Manning, Kenneth Guthrie, Gilbert Nelson, Merlin Rauscher, Larry Staehr and John Ehlers, Jr.

Interment followed in the Exeter Cemetery.
