Thomas Hughes Bringle was born September 27, 1903 in Covington, Tennessee (Tipton County), son of Walter Verble Bringle (1879-1953) and Lucy Hughes (1880-1956).

The 1920 Federal Census for Covington, Tennessee (Tipton County) shows Hughes Bringle, age 16, born in Tennessee; living with his father, Walter V. Bringle, an attorney-at-law, age 47, born in Tennessee; and his mother, Lucy H., age 40, born in Kentucky.

Hughes married Mary Catherine Culberson, who was born November 15, 1904 in Ft Smith, Arkansas (Sebastian County), daughter of James Culberson, a well-known Choctaw Indian, and Martha Virginia Harris. Mary was 1/4 Choctaw Indian. She grew up in Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) and graduated from Durant High School and later graduated from Rhodes College at Memphis, Tennessee. Mary taught school in Covington, Tennessee for 30 years.

The 1930 Federal Census for Covington, Tennessee (Tipton County) shows T. Hughes Bringle, an attorney-at-law, age 26, born in Tennessee; living with his father, Walter V. Bringle, an attorney-at-law, age 59, born in Tennessee; and his mother, Lucy H., age 50, born in Kentucky. Also living in the household was Hughes' wife, Mary Catherine, age 25, born in Arkansas; and Hughes' and Mary's first-born child, Martha H. Bringle, age 3 months, born in Tennessee.

Hughes and Mary ultimately had three children: Martha Hughes Bringle (1930-1949); Walter Bringle (1935- ); and Beverly Bringle (1938- ).

Mary died at age 84 on July 30, 1988 in Covington, Tennessee (Tipton County) and was buried there in the Munford Cemetery. Hughes died in March 1984 in Covington, Tennessee and was buried beside his wife.
