Actor. Born in Ontinyent, he debuted on stage at the age of 16 with Mendizábal Stock Company. He developed a prolific career on screen, becoming one of the best spanish character actors. From 1946 to 1953, he lived in Mexico, where he appeared in more than 50 films. One of his most celebrated roles was as Sancho Panza in "Don Quijote de La Mancha" (1947). He is best remembered for films such as "La Hermana San Sulpicio" (1934), "Eloísa Está Debajo de un Almendro" (1943), "El Clavo" (1944), "Cinco Lobitos" (1945), "Allá en el Rancho Grande" (1948), "Marcelino, Pan y Vino" (1954), "Historias de la Radio" (19549, "Calabuch" (1956), "Mi Tio Jacinto" (1956), "Los Jueves, Milagro" (1957) and "Sólo Para Hombres" (1960). He was the father of actor Armando Calvo.
