Michael (Mike) Stein was a farmer in White Church. He was called "one-armed Mike" to distinguish him from the other Mike Steins. Mike lost his left arm in a steam engine corn shredder at Roy Speaker's house, 2 miles south of White Church, about 8:30 or 9:00 a.m. on a January morning in zero degree weather in 1917. He continued farming and was so well adapted to having one arm that he frequently said he guessed he hadn't needed that arm anyway.
