He married Hazel White on March 3, 1934 in Galesburg, Illinois. They spent all their married life in East Galesburg. In his later years he resided and was lovingly cared for by his daughter in her home.
He worked as a coal miner, and at Rowe Manufacturing and at Raymond Marquith Elementary School. He enjoyed golfing.
Surviving are a daughter Julie Deakin five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents a son John Leaf, Jr.
and his brothers and sisters.
Cremation was accorded and his ashes will be interred beside his wife of 62 years and next to his son. Rev. Milton Marquith officiating.
