Andrew was born December 2, 1847, in Philadelphia, the son of parents who immigrated to the U.S. from Germany. They lived in New York before moving to Pennsylvania. In his pension application, he names two brothers, George Antone and Lucas Worth Williams.
Andrew, who worked as a button maker, joined the Union Army on January 18, 1864, as a private in Company A of the 2nd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery.
He was discharged at City Point, Virginia, on January 29, 1866. Andrew moved South and was living in Galveston in 1870. (His brother George rejoined the U.S. Army serving all over the West until his retirement in California.)
Andrew married America Sidney Dial, daughter of Martin Dial and Margaret Campbell, in Columbus, Colorado County, on May 11, 1873. Both her parents had died in 1870.
The couple moved to farm in Lampasas County where they are first listed as a couple on the 1880 census.
Andrew and America divorced on November 11, 1893, in Lampasas County, and on every census afterwards, Andrew lists himself as a widower.
Andrew was living with his daughter and son-in-law, Sadie Alice and Ernest Wiley Cothran, when he died April 27, 1914. He was buried In Western Heights Cemetery, Dallas. There's been a lot of vandalism to the Cemetery, where the Clyde Barrow family is buried, and the grave is no longer marked.
