Thomas arrived in Philadelphia in 1806. He fought in the War of 1812. Enlisting with the Carlisle Guard, he served from January 1914 until October 6, 1821. The following is a copy of his discharge:

"Thomas Jones, as a member and Orderly Sergeant of the Carlisle Guard, a volunteer company of the Light Infantry under my command, is hereby discharged from said company, he having uniformed and equipped himself, and faithfully served as a member thereof for seven successive years. With my hand at Carlisle this 6th day of October A.D. 1821 and signed by order of the commissioned officers of said company". Samuel Alexander, Captain Carlisle Guard
