Donald J. Long, 74, Ellsworth, passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013.

He was born Apr. 21, 1939, in Ellsworth, the son of Harry W. and Jessie (Bailey) Long.

On May 15, 1966, Don married Margaret E. Nelson in Rush Center, Kan. Margaret preceded him in death Oct. 31, 2012. He was a lifetime resident of Ellsworth County raised south of town on Ash Creek. He attended Ash Creek School and Ellsworth High School. Don was a farmer and cattleman all his life. At a young age, he started working in livestock sale barns and had previously been part owner of Sylvan Sales in Sylvan Grove. Currently, he was a fieldman for Farmers & Ranchers Livestock in Salina. He is also a member of the First United Methodist Church, Ellsworth, and the KSU Ahearn Fund and Presidents Club.

Survivors include daughter Sandra Lendecker (Jim) and son Steve Long, both of Salina, daughter Lisa Long (David Markley) of Alma, daughter Laura Miller of McPherson; sisters Joan Wilson of Salina and Annetta Shepherd (William) of Wichita, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, family and amazing friends.

Don was preceded in death by sisters Harriet Nickels and Rachel Jane Davidson.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Ellsworth, followed by burial in Ellsworth Cemetery.
