Joyce M. Sterner, age 82, Danville, died Sept. 16, 2013.

Joyce was born May 28, 1931, in Lancaster, the daughter of the late Jesse J. Howery and Mary Ella Quinn Howery Hummer. She was a 1949 graduate of Danville High School and a 1952 graduate of The Lutheran Hospital Nursing School in Baltimore, Md.

She and John "Jack" Sterner were married March 28, 1953, in Louisville, Ky., while Jack was in the Army stationed at Fort Knox.

Joyce was employed at Danville State Hospital, Geisinger Medical Center, and The Mansion Nursing Home in Sunbury.

She is survived by her husband; her daughters: Valerie and Kathy; and her son, Brian; her grandchildren: Jill and Justin Evert; Blaine and Brenan Sterner; and Erin and Jamie Sidler; a great-grandson, Nicholas Kessler; and a sister, Julia Noll, Melbourne, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Janice Kline; and her grandson, Darren Sterner.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
