Graduate of the United States Military Academy - Class of 1950. Commissioned in the United States Air Force, he served as a navigator, bombardier and radar operator. Originally assigned as B-29 radar operator with the 44th Bombardment Wing Strategic Air Command. Later deployed to the Royal Thai Air Base, he flew 40 aerial combat mission over North Vietnam. Recipient of the Meritorious Service Award, Air Medal (6), the Distinguished Flying Cross, and Bronze Star. Preceded in death by his wife, Susan Grether, in July 1991. Retired from the service in 1974.
