Walter was born on Oct. 17, 1913, in Owatonna, Minn., the son of the Rev. Adolf and Marie (Weinhold) Paul. He was united in marriage to Margaret Hillers on June 7, 1941, in Sioux Falls, S.D. Walter attended and graduated from Concordia Seward Teachers College with a bachelor's degree. He went on to receive his master's degree from River Forest University. In 1943 Walter moved to Davenport to accept a position as principal at Trinity Lutheran School, Davenport. He retired in 1985 after 42 years. During his years of hard work and dedication, he received the Teacher of the Year Award from Seward Teaching College. Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret, Davenport; four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Robert Miles, Bay City, Mich., Susan Paul, Ft. Wayne, Ind., Rachel and Roger Lamp, Mason City, Iowa, and Edith Paul, Alexandria, Va.; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Sandy Paul, New York, N.Y., and Timothy and Leslie Paul, San Diego, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandsons; and sister, Esther Paul, Milwaukee, Wis. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
