"Together Again"
On Aug. 4, 2013, Edward Kirschstein rejoined his wife of 44 years, Angela (Carnavole) Kirschstein, who passed away March 20, 2008. He was 88 years old.
They had six children, Pamela (Van Vorhes) Hanko (deceased), Sandra (Van Vorhes) Klosterman, Sarah (Kirschstein) DeBold, Charles Van Vorhes, Paul Kirschstein, and Michael Kirschstein; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 18 great-great grandchildren.
Ed was born in Perry, Aug. 3, 1925, but grew up and lived in Madison and Mentor until he and Angie moved to Crossville, Tenn. in 1976.
He enlisted in the army in 1943 and was in The Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded on Dec. 21, 1944, and spent 6 months as a prisoner of war in Germany. He was liberated by General Patton's 9th Armored Division on May 11, 1945. Ed was awarded the Purple Heart, The Good Conduct Medal, The Prisoner of War Medal, The Marksmen, and The Marksmen Expert Medals, The Amed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and The WWII Victory Medal; as well as the American and European Campaign Army Air Force Presidential Unit Citation. Ed is mentioned several times in the book "Dear Captain el tl" written around his and others' experiences in World War II by author Allan Howerton.
He is also survived by his sister Dorothy, 91, of New York; and was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Catherine Kirschstein; brothers, Charles and George Kirschstein, and sisters Kathryn Meston and Gertrude Baker.
Angie was born April 22,1924 in Toledo, but grew up in Cleveland before moving to Mentor and Madison. Both Ed and Angie worked at Fasson Products, now Avery-Dennison, for over 20 years where Angie founded the Service Department. They were involved in the the building of "Fassonation Park" and in many of it's activities; and their grandson Charles Wienhold who currently works at Avery-Dennison continues their tradition.
Angela is also survived by her brothers, John Underwood and Gene Underwood, and sister Lee McFarland. She was preceded in death by her daughter Pamela (Van Vorhes) Hanko; mother Teresa Underwood, father Nick Carnavole; brothers Tony Carnavole and Frank Underwood, and sister Mary Roenbaugh.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m.
Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at The Perry Cemetery.
