Roberts-Bates
This morning, at the parlors of the Pendleton hotel, the marriage of Miss Ruby M. Roberts to Mrs. John E. Bates, was solemnized. Mr. Bates is the son of the owner of a large sawmill in Union, and the bride was formerly a resident of Harney. The ceremony was performed by Rev. W. H. Bleakney, the president of Pendleton Academy.
Ruby Bates died at age 17 October 2, 1904 following childbirth.
Carrie Belle Wiley, born c. January 4, 1863 in Peoria, Peoria County, Illinois. Carrie Belle Wiley was married to Broaddus William Bates on February 3, 1878. Broaddus was born on December 16, 1856 in Big Island, Marion County, Ohio and died on August 20, 1942 in Pendleton, Umatilla County, Oregon. Broaddus William Bates' mortal remains were laid in the Union Cemetery in Union, Union County, Oregon. See his Find A Grave Memorial# 11726498. Carrie and Broaddus were the parents of at least one son;

Joseph Reed was 33 at this time and was the son of Lawrence Reed and Mary Oshaugnuson, while Carrie B Bates was 28 at this time and was the daughter of Charles Wiley and Caroline Debord.
At the time of the 1900 census, Carrie is found married, but, living alone in Helena Township, Helena city Ward 4, Lewis and Clark County, Montana. She is listed as having been married 8 years, but Joseph is not here and she is listed as having only had one child, who is living. She is listed as having been born in January of 1863. Her father and mother are listed as having been born in Germany and Kentucky, respectively.
