Mr. Abbott was born Aug. 8, 1927, in Decatur, the son of Ira R. Abbott and Ruth Stone. Mr. Abbott attended the University of Illinois, was an Army veteran and graduated from Millikin University. He spent his career in commercial construction in Decatur and Central Illinois, working with the firms of Fischer Stone, DeWitt Amdahl and Associates and ended his working career as chief building inspector for the city of Decatur, retiring in 1991. He married Mary Jane Dwyer on Aug. 11, 1951.
Surviving are his wife of Decatur; brother, Ira R. Jr. of LaPorte, Ind.; sister, Rosemond of Rice Lake, Wis.; sons, Albert E. Abbott Jr. of Akron, Ohio; John C. Abbott of Reno, Nev.; daughter, Jane of Hilton Head, S.C.; nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Miriam, and brother, Robert.
