Virginia Merrell Austin, age 87, died Monday, February 25, 2013, at Heritage Corner, Bowling Green, following a long illness. Virginia was born March 11, 1925, in Ashtabula, Ohio, to Richard D. and Helen (Corbin) Merrell. She was a graduate of Ashtabula High School in 1943, Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Arts and the University of Michigan with a Master of Arts in Library Science. After devoting her entire career to the Bowling Green State University Library, Virginia retired in 1978. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Bowling Green and a volunteer at Wood County Hospital for many years. Virginia is survived by 3 stepsons David L. (Leslie) of Alliance, Daniel F. (Ann) of Shaker Heights, Gary R. of Cincinnati; 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, a brother Richard (Helen) Merrell of Arlington, Virginia and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Robert T. Austin, who died in 1991 and stepson Ross in 2011. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Bowling Green. Arrangements have been entrusted to DUNN FUNERAL HOME 408 W.
