John M. "Jack" Detrick, 83, Duncansville, died peacefully Wednesday morning at the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg after a brief illness.

He was born in Newry, son of the late Benjamin Sr. and Grace (Glunt) Detrick. He married Edith K. Trexler on April 17, 1948, in Duncansville, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 10, 2003.

Surviving are three daughters: Kathy Baumgartner (John) of Salisbury, Md., Betsy Faulds (John) of Huntsville, Ala., and Jill Hirt (Gerald) of Duncansville; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Fowkes of Duncansville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by seven siblings: Don, Tom, Vernon, Benjamin Jr., David "Bill," Katheryn Dell and Azalia Miller.

Jack retired from Conrail, where he worked at the Hollidaysburg shops. He was a member of the Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church. He belonged to the NRA and enjoyed hunting and gardening. He could fix or build anything and was a jack-of-all-trades.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at Liebegott-Brown Funeral Home Inc., 1218 Fourth Ave., Duncansville, the Rev. Jaime G. Olson officiating. Interment will be at Newry Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Duncansville Lutheran Church.
