ARDON A. DOPP DIES; RETIRED THEATER MAN
Ardon A. Dopp, 81, resident of Johnstown 70 years and former theater operator here, died yesterday afternoon at 2:15 at the Gotta Nursing Home. He had been in ill health for the past six years.
Mr. Dopp was born April 15, 1873, at Rural Grove, son of Henry and Henrietta (Fonda) Dopp.
He came to this city at the age of 11 and attended the local schools. On Nov. 5, 1899, he married Miss Margaret Shults in Chicago.
In 1916 Mr. Dopp purchased the Electric Theatre on West Main Street, later known as the Strand. He and his son, Clarence, operated the theater until the former's retirement in 1932. The son continued operation of the theater until he disposed of it a few years ago, and it has since been torn down for the erection of the new Grant store.
Mr. Dopp was a member of Fort Johnson Aerie, 1575, FOE, and was an attendant of St. John's Episcopal Church.
The survivors, beside his wife and son, are a sister, Mrs. Minnie Washburn of Mayfield; grand daughter, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The body was removed to the Brown & Ehle Funeral Home to be prepared for interment, and late this afternoon will be taken to the home of the son, 701 South William Street, where the funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2. The Rev. Norman D. Knox, supply rector of St. John's Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Fern Dale Cemetery.
