The Claytons owned Clayton Insurance in Rector for several years. In 1973, Mrs. Clayton took over the business after her husband suffered a debilitating stroke.
Mrs. Clayton served as a president of the Women's Auxiliary on the district and state levels. She and her late husband were very active in the American Legion.
She was born on March 4, 1929, in Portageville, Mo., the daughter of the late Jesse Newton and Lela Brockwell Finley. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Finley.
