John DeWolf married Susan Reynolds in 1784. He was active in the Revolutionary War and was captured and imprisoned on the notorious "Jersey Prison Ship." John DeWolf served as either captain, or as owner/co-owner of slaving vessels. Several accounts say John retired from the sea and took up farming in 1798.
