Donald D. Dod
The Rev. Donald D. Dod, 95, a resident of Elkins, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 1, 2008, at his home.
He was born Oct. 10, 1912, at Kansas City, Mo., a son of the late William Dod and the late Amy Stone Dod.
He was married to Annabelle Stockton Dod, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are one son, David Dod of Atascadero, Calif.; three daughters, Judith Seaman of Elkins, Laurie Speer of New York, and Suzanne Thomas of El Cerrito, Calif of One brother, Russell Dod, Washington; seven grandchildren, Amanda and Natasha Seaman of Massachusetts, Timothy Speer of Boston, and Jessica Speer of New York, Karma Humbold and Daniel Dod of Los Angeles, Calif., and Renee Shank of Berkley, Calif.; as well as four great-grandchildren also survive.
The Rev. Dod received his masters in divinity and worked as a Fraternal Worker for the United Presbyterian Church, USA, serving 18 years in Puerto Rico, and 22 years in the Dominican Republic prior to his retirement. He currently attended Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was an accomplished amateur botanist and while residing in the Dominican Republic, discovered more than 20 orchids new to science. The Rev. Dod touched many lives.
Rev. Dod's remains will be cremated. Memorial contributions may be made to West Virginia Highlands Conversancy, in care of Bob Marshall, Treasurer, 886-Z, Divide Road, Kenna, W.Va. 25248 in memory of the Rev. Dod. Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Donald D. Dod. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblynfuneralhome.com.
