Obituary:
Mary Louise Evans (1915 - 2013)
Mary Louise Evans went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, in Oxnard, at the age of 98.

She had been a Ventura County resident for over 85 years. She was born in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, on February 22, 1915, to Edward and Lucretia Wickman, the oldest of five children. The family came to California in the early twenties. They lived in Hermosa Beach, for a few years then came to the Ojai Valley. Mary and her family were the sixth family to settle permanently in Meiners Oaks. Mary graduated from Nordhoff High School in 1933, as salutatorian of her class, possibly one of the last surviving members.Mary later married Ralph William Homer in November, 1937, a marriage that lasted ten years and produced two children. She was a widow for five years before marrying Randolph David Evans, a marriage that would last sixteen years.

Mary was a long time member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Ojai. She was active in Meiners Oaks Lions Club, the boy and girl scouts, and the PTA in Ojai where she was a past president. Mary worked for local junior and high schools for 14 years. She loved to dance, enjoyed playing bridge and was a huge USC Football fan, but mostly loved being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Even though she lived in Oxnard for the last 18 years she always considered the Ojai Valley her home.

Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward and Preston; sisters, Edwina and Geneva; and son, Preston Homer. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Denny Dubsky of Oxnard; daughter-in-law, Julie (Homer) Koenig of Ojai; grandchildren, Todd Homer of Rancho Cucamonga and Sinclair McCauley of Port Hueneme; nieces, Terry Wilson of Ojai and Jeanne Mackey of Choctaw, Oklahoma; nephew, James Coultas of Ojai; and cousin, Audrey Elaine Swenson of Las Vegas, Nevada. The family wishes to thank the staff at Sea Breeze Manor for all the care they gave Mary in her last years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice .

Visitation for Mary will take place Saturday, September 7, 2013, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road in Ventura from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Services will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Jeff Wilhelm of St. Andrews Episcopal Church officiating.
