Dorothy was born in England, probably in Wadhurst, East Sussex, about 1582. Her parents were William and Mary Appes Selden. On January 25, 1602, she became the wife of Steven Hosmer of Ticehurst, East Sussex at St. Mary's Church in Ticehurst. He was the son of James & Agnes Hosmer. Soon after the marriage, they settled in the nearby village of Hawkhurst, Kent. Steven was a shearman. Dorothy & Steven had nine children baptised at Hawkhurst. She was also the aunt of Thomas Selden of Hartford, who in his 1665 will, mentions "cousin Thomas Hosmer of Hartford". Steven died in 1633 and Dorothy died in Hawkhurst in 1640. She was buried in St. Laurence Churchyard there on February 5.
