Melville married 2nd in 1884: Lucina E. (Cornwall) Wilson , (1853-1941), d/o Rufus Cornwall & Harriet E. Shudley. Lucinda had a son with first husband George Merle Wilson Sr. Their son George Merle Wilson Jr. (1876-1934).
Then Lucinda and 2nd husband Melville Farrar had their child:
1. Marie (Mavis) Genevieve Farrar (1886-1970)

Melville served in Hooker's Division in the Civil War, 71st NY Vol. He was wounded at Gettysburg, PA on July 23, 1863, and received an honorable discharge in June 1864.

After the war Melville served in the Grover Cleveland Administration as a Postmaster.
