Canadian Political Leader. Sir Allan MacNab, former Prime Minister of the Canadas 1854-56. He served in the war of 1812 at the age of 14, by 28 he had become a lawyer. With that income he started buying up land and developing it in a large scale in the Hamilton area. At one point he owned Hamilton’s now famous tourist attraction Dundurn Castle, and Hamilton’s MacNab street, MacNab School, and MacNab Recreation Centre are all named after him. In 1837 Allan MacNab operated a steamship business between Hamilton and Rochester NY. In 1838 he was knighted for his role in fighting the insurgents of 1837. He was the son of Lieut. Allan MacNab, formerly of the Queen's Rangers. He was created a baronet in 1858; the concept of barons became extinct on his death.
