Madlyn (Simmons) Combe, 89, of Middletown, wife of the late Joseph A. Combe, left to be with her husband on Thursday, November 29, 2012. She was born on August 2, 1923 in Middletown where she lived her entire life and was the daughter of the late George and Marguerite (Smith) Simmons.

Madlyn was employed by the Russell Company before her marriage and then after her children were born worked as the secretary of South Congregational Church for over twenty years. After her retirement, she volunteered at Middlesex Hospital Gift Shop and was recognized by the hospital for volunteering over 3000 hours.

Madlyn is survived by her son, Joseph Combe and his wife, Linda; two daughters, Gail Muraca and her husband, Frank and Linda Malavasi and her husband, Thomas; three grandchildren, Daniel Smith, Allyson Smith and Shelley Combe; her sister, Elizabeth Arrigoni and her husband, Charles; her brother, Robert Simmons and his wife, Muffie; sisters-in-law, Rita Hazel and Jean Combe; a brother-in-law, Henry Combe and his wife, Polly and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Wadsworth Glen for their loving and compassionate care during Madlyn's long illness. (Hartford Courant 12/2/2012)
