Andrew Jackson Grubaugh was born in 1833 to David C. Grubaugh and Sarah S. Conkil. He was 4th of their 11 children. Although he was born in Ohio, he moved with his family to Crawford County, Illinois in about 1838 when he was 5 years old. He lived in Crawford County for the rest of his life. He married Frances Emmaline McCarty on 4 Dec 1856 in Crawford County. Andrew and Frances had 10 children. They were Ella M. Grubaugh McGrew (1859-1923), Douglas Grubaugh (1860-<1870), Lenora Josephine Grubaugh Sims (1863-1912), Charles H. Grubaugh (1864-1935), Fredward Mail Grubaugh (1866-1930), Anna E. Grubaugh Mace (1868-1940), Wesley David Grubaugh (1870-1935), Blanche Emmaline "Emma" Grubaugh Price (1873-1924), Orval Andrew Grubaugh (1875-1950), and Everett Ellsworth Grubaugh (1878-1929). Frances died in 1901 and Andrew died 10 years later. He never remarried. Andrew worked as a farmer.
