Funeral services for Melvin James "Hans" Halligan, 79 a resident of Davenport will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport. Visitation is (today) Tuesday 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Davenport Memorial Park cemetery. Hans died Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center ? East Rusholme Street, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family.
Melvin James Halligan was born September 21, 1930 in Davenport a son of Melvin Simon and Grace (Ross) Halligan. Melvin was united in marriage to Wava Johannsen on July 5, 1952 at St. Anthony?s Catholic Church, Davenport, Iowa.
Melvin had worked for the Bendix Corporation, he retired in 1993 from the Rock Island Arsenal where he had been a heat treat operator. Melvin was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and helping others especially during the floods. He had an active role in the lives of his children and grandchildren attending their many activities.
Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 58 years Wava, and their children and spouses, JoDee (Duane) Holdorf, Dixon, IA, Patrick (Jill) Halligan, Blue Grass, IA, Susan Halligan, Moline, IL, Terry (Melaine) Halligan, Davenport, Melinda (Geofrey) Foster, Tempe, AZ, James (Lori) Halligan, Davenport, IA; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. His brother John Halligan, Davenport and his sister Rosemary (Don) Enoch, Davenport, his in-laws Richard Kroeger, Bonita Springs, FL, Larry (Wilma) Johannsen, Davenport, Ardyth Cary, Tempe, AZ, Dianne Hitchcock, Orange City, FL and Denny Johannsen, New Windsor, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Karen Woolison, sister Patricia Kroeger, brother Dwight Halligan and in-laws George and Ila Jean Morelock, Don Cary. May they rest in peace.
