Singer. She was an International jazz singer-songwriter, best remembered for the hit, "The World Today is a Mess" (1972). She was singing in a Chicago diner, when she was signed to Decca Records and released her first record, "I Ain't In The Mood" (1951). Through most of the 1950s, she recorded singles such as "Too Young", "Take One!", "Gee Baby, Ain't I Good To You", plus toured America with Louis Jordon, Johnny Mathis, Tommy Edwards and Della Reese. She went to England in 1959 and then to Paris to perform with Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones and The Platters. Remaining in Europe for the next 30 years, she won the European IV International Song Festival of Costa del Sol in 1970 and was signed a recording contract with Columbia Records. With Columbia Records, she released the hit singles "Soy Feliz", "If You Hold My Hand", plus the album and single "The World Today is a Mess" (1972), which sold more than a million copies world wide. In 1990, she moved to Austin, Texas and went into semi-retirement. Her last performance was in Spain, as the guest of honor at the IV Festival International de Jazz in 2006.
