Ilene was the daughter of Earnest Cleveland Rogers(1/7/1890-1/11/1940) and Vassie Dubose Rogers(8/25/1889-9/6/1955). Her siblings are Madeline "Sister" Astor Rogers Wester, Edith Alease Rogers Cawthon, Ferrin Daniel Rogers, and Kary "K.C." Cleveland Rogers. She married Alcus Brazile in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. They had no children together.
Ilene was a registered nurse and went through nurses training in Pensacola, Fla. and special training elsewhere(New York City?). She worked in many of the county`s in extreme northwest Florida. She worked for Doctor Ralph Spires in DeFuniak Springs for many years. One of her jobs included health care to poor families in secluded backwoods areas. Daddy used to tell a story about going to the country with her, on one of her rounds, to Molino, Fla. where he saw some children eating dirt. He asked her why they did that and Ilene told him that they needed the iron in it and that is why. She lived back and forth from DeFuniak Springs and Pensacola, Florida for many decades of her life. Finally staying in DeFuniak first taking care of her husband, then mother and finally her sister during their illnesses. She helped the family buy a house in Navy Point around 1950 and later bought one in DeFuniak all her own. During the 1960`s she would help drive her grand nephews and nieces around in her various cars. She liked Ford`s and had Fairlanes, Falcons, and LTD`s. She also had plastic seat covers put on them and many where red with red interiors. She named them and they always had Air Conditioning and radios. She also always had peppermints and would give the kids candy and gum.
She died in Pensacola of complications due to another heart surgery to repair artery`s to her heart. The veins just could not take the added trauma.
She was a truly good soul and was the major care giver of her family. She nursed her mother, husband, and sister, Edith, until their deaths. Her sacrifices for her family are truly remarkable.
