James was born about 1820-1821 in SC and married Mary Vaughan/Vaughn (b. 1821) about 1842. They had two sons George William 1843 and John James 1846, in SC and then started moving west. The next four children were born in GA, Thomas Wesley 1848, Elizabeth Jane 1850, Nancy Malinda 1853, and James Tillman 1855. The last child Sandford Vandiver was born in AL, in 1858. They settled in Calhoun Co, AL until after the CW where George & John served from in the war. George married Henrietta Harrison in DeSoto Co, MS in 1866 and the other siblings married in MS and then settled in AR shortly after. By 1880, after James B's death Mary was living in AR with her married daughter Nancy Malinda Goin Berry. Mary's death date and place of burial is not known. The family was found in Calhoun County, AL on the 1860 under Gones & 1870 under Gain on the Census records. On the 1870 Census James & Mary were listed as the same age. The 1860 Census had their ages recorded or transcribed wrong.

Son, James Tillman Goin b. 1855 married Augusta Moore in Tate County, MS and moved to CA to settle. I found him on the 1920 Census living in what looked like a nursing home or hospital. No other information on him or his branch of the family.
