FOUND DEAD AT DOGTOWN.
For over forty-two years old miners have lived in the old Dogtown diggings. They came with the first comers and in all these years their faith has never waivered. Time in its course has worn smooth the path once trodden by the gold seeker and, today, the place is silent and lonely.
Death called this week and took one of the old pioneers. Alone one had lived for years, growing weaker day by day. Recently sickness came and with it the end.
Thursdy (sic), an Indian, in his rovings, passed through Dogtown, called at the cabin of Peter Anderson and found his decomposed body lying upon the porch. The Indian came to town (Bridgeport) with the news and, at once, Coroner Welch, Ed. Murphey and Frank Schreck left to bring in the body. Upon their arrival, they found it would be impossible to move the body so returned to town. Yesterday Coroner Welch and eight or ten men returned to the scene and buried the body.
Peter Johann Anderson was a native of Sweeden (sic), and 79 years of age. He was a man well liked by all and his lonely death has caused a pang in the breasts of his many friends.
