Mrs. Barkett was born April 12, 1908, in Helena, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Robert E. and Nancy Yancey McGinty. In 1951, Mrs. Barkett moved to Mansfield where she resided with her husband, the late Albert E. Barkett, and family until 1961 when they moved away due to his profession. In 1970, they returned to Mansfield where she was a member and affiliate of First Congregational Church, Westbrook Country Club, Women's Club, Singles Club, and the Lexington Retirees.
Mrs. Barkett was a member of the first graduating class of Akron Garfield High School in 1927. She continued to enjoy golf until she was 83 years old, participating in the Nine Hole and Senior League.
Her concerned and caring nature made her a total delight to be around. Her underlying devotion and love for her family was evident throughout her life. She was an avid and very accomplished bridge player. In later years, other than family, the highlight of her week was Tuesday Duplicate Bridge at the Women's Club.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Barkett was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert E. and Linda Barkett of Mansfield; four grandchildren, Julie Barkett (Tom) Allen of Dublin, Dr. Robert E. (Karla) Barkett Jr. of Mansfield, Amy Barkett of Cincinnati and Anne Barkett of Columbus; six great-grandchildren, Tess, Jill and John Allen of Dublin, and Andrew, Matthew and Thomas Barkett of Mansfield.
Funeral services will be Thursday, 11 a.m. at Finefrock-Williams Funeral Home, 350 Marion Ave., with the Reverend David Root officiating. Burial will be at Mansfield Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to First Congregational Church, 640 Millsboro Road, Mansfield 44903; Women's Club; or a charity of one's choice.
