Auto Accident Fatal to Bob Cook, Constable

Car Veers Out of Control Over Side Of Enbankment

Constable Robert Cook, 33, of Evarts, died in Harlan Hospital yesterday afternoon of injuries received in an automobile accident near Draper.

The accident occurred about 5 p.m. Cook apparently lost control of his car near the Draper tipple and the car went over the bank. He suffered severe cuts and bruises of the face and head, crushed chest, a wound at the base of the neck, and crushed pelvis.

Cook was the elected constable of District 2 and was employed as a machine man at the Dartmont Coal Company. He was a member of Yocum Creek I.O.O.F. and UMW Local 8170.

Surviving are his wife, parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Cook, Evarts; six children, Shirley, Bobbie, Geraldine, Helen, Hazel and Carl, all of Evarts; three brothers, Boyd, Sherman, and George Cook, of Evarts; and two sisters, Mrs. Geneva Philpot,of Pardee, Va., and Mrs. Maud Stepp, of Evarts.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in the Draper Baptist Church. The body will be at the home in Evarts until the funeral hour.

Burial wiil be in Resthaven Cemetery. Evarts Funeral Home is in charge.
