James Edward "Jim" Hardy was the son of Marion Hamilton Hardy and Elizabeth Bird Justice Hardy. He was retired from Standard Oil Company in Baton Rouge. He married Ella Stevenson on December 20, 1905.

He was survived by his wife; two daughters, Velma Geneva Hardy Smith of near Rayville and Rubye Anne Hardy Clack of Baton Rouge; a brother, Ben Field Hardy, Sr. of Rayville; a sister, Mrs. P. W. Chambers of West Monroe; and 2 grandchildren.
