She was born in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania on April 21, 1923, the daughter of J. Bryant and Mary (Sikes) Hostetter. Betty attended nursing school in Philadelphia, and met her future husband, William J. Beckfield, while working at Philadelphia General Hospital. Betty and Bill were married on January 10, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1962, they moved their family of eight sons from Pennsylvania to Eau Claire.
Betty and Bill loved spending summer weekends boating on the Mississippi River. They also enjoyed traveling to San Francisco, and the time they spent at their home in Marco Island, FL. Betty's favorite pastimes were reading, gardening and listening to a wide variety of music.
Betty is survived by her eight sons and their spouses, Timothy of Union Grove, WI, Mark of Eau Claire, WI, D. Patrick of New Brighton, MN, William of Bloomer, WI, David of Madison, WI, Thomas of Edmonton, KY, Lawrence of Shippensburg, PA and John of Aumsville, OR. She is further survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, in 1988; and her parents.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Sacred Heart Church in Eau Claire with Father William Dhein officiating.
Burial will be at a later date in Pennsylvania. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is serving her family.
