Marion was the son of Floyd C and Pearl (Peterson) Austin. He married Mary Newell on May 31, 1947. She preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 1983. He later married Mary Brewer, who survives. He graduated from Varna High School with the Class of 1944. He was one of the first EMTs on the Varna Ambulance Service, which he helped organize. He served as Varna's mayor from 1969 to 1993, and for many years as the community's fire chief and police chief. He owned Midway Concessions, working many of the area county fairs.
