POEM: Memory Lane

I wandered today down memory lane,
Todays long since gone by,
I saw a group of children's play,
'Neath a mothers watchful eye,

I saw a tall and slately tree,
It's branches high up in the air,
Providing shade for the children's play,
I wonder -- Is that tree still growing there?

I saw a man come home from work,
His blue eyes seemed to twinkle,
As the children ran to greet him,
His eyebrow raised to form a wrinkle,

His round face beamed with tender love,
His work-worn hands showed loving care,
He stopped and gave each child a pat,
To him, they are equally dear,

I take these trips down memory lane,
With pleasure -- not regret,
Now, I have children of my own,
But these memories I shan't forget,
