Lucinda Hairston Banta was the daughter of Ezekiel P. "Peter" Hairston who was born in 1794 in Abbeville, South Carolina. He died of a kidney infection on March 3, 1870 in Burnet Co., Texas. Lucinda's mother, Mary Jane Barret married Ezekiel P. "Peter" Hairston on November 19, 1819 in Montgomery, Alabama. Mary Jane Barret Hairston was born in 1796 in South Carolina. Lucinda's parents both died in 1870. They are believed to be buried on the Hairston family farm near Hairston Creek in Burnet County, Texas.

Lucinda was the first wife of Captain William Banta. They were married March, 1850 in Burnett Co., Texas. Their children were:
