MRS. PROFFITT DIES
AT ADVANCED AGE
Mrs. Caltha Irene Proffitt passed away at her home in the First ward shortly before midnight Monday evening. She had been confined to her bed by an attack of stomach trouble for the past three weeks, but previous to that time had enjoyed fairly good health and had not complained of any disorder except such as was thought to be incident to old age. Her son James and her two daughters were with her at the time of death and she retained her faculties to the end, bidding good-bye to the members of her family and endeavoring to console them to the last.
The deceased, whose maiden name was Caltha Irene Lindville, was born in Jackson county, Missouri, sixty-nine years ago. After her marriage to her late husband, the family lived in Wyandotte county, Kansas and when a widow, she came with some of the members of her family seventeen years ago to Deadwood where she has since resided.
The funeral services will take place this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Baptist church, Rev. Frederick Richardson officiating. The burial will be in Mt. Moriah cemetery.
Mrs. Proffitt is survived by three sons and two daughters. They are Jesse Proffitt of Prescott, Ariz.; William K. Proffitt of Cheyenne, Wyo.; James Proffitt of Deadwood, Mrs. J. W. Campbell of Deadwood and Mrs. E. Murray of Deadwood.

Dear, precious mother, we say fare
well;
We know thou art gone before
To thy rest above, where angels dwell
Where pain and death shall be no
more.

We'll miss you mother, but we know
That God has called thee home;
And we, thy children here below
Must a little longer roam.

But bye and bye when ends life's
race,
We'll meet thee in the skies.
Once more we'll see thy loving face
And dry our weeping eyes.
--John W. Campbell.
