Henry H. Brinkerhoff was born on January 6, 1835 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Henry H. Brinkerhoff was the son of John Van Wagenen Brinkerhoff and Hannah Van Houten Tice. Henry H. Brinkerhoff married Elizabeth Vreeland, daughter of Michael Vreeland and Ann Vreeland, on June 6, 1855 in Jersey City. They had three children, two boys and a girl; John J, Dr. Henry H. and Lois Elizabeth. During the Civil War, Brinkerhoff enlisted for 90 days in the 2nd Regiment of Militia, in the New Jersey Brigade on April 26, 1861, where he became the regiment's quartermaster. The 2nd N.J. Regiment, under the command of Colonel Henry M. Baker, served for three months around Washington D.C. and was mustered out of service in Trenton on July 31st, 1861. Brinkerhoff died on February 13, 1899 in Jersey City, at age 64.
